This is from her new photo contest at https://www.oprah.com/plugform_nodata.jsp?plugId=70&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opr...;
Here is a funny Response I got on Twitter - http://img.skitch.com/20090421-d7d6iu3a6b8ew7m8kmmqu2abss.jpg
This is not surprising. Many "contests" don't want you coming back and suing for a gazillion dollars because their art department 7 years from now re-uses something that ran in 2009.
Just the same, I don't participate in contests like this without a LOT of thought.
I don't have a problem with the Oprah show using my photos for the purposes of the contest, or to show on the air, etc etc... but the way it reads say I don't have the right to ever license them anywhere else.
Hmmmm...How can I get some of the best talent out there to send me some of their best work but not pay for it... I have an idea!!
Give Oprah a break, she is down to her last several Billion Dollars in this tough economy and can't be paying fancy "royalties" to unreasonable photographers.
Good God ... so sorry ... I didn't even see that rule in fine print when I sent that link you way. That's a good lesson for me to learn to read the fine print! That "don't have the right to ever license them anywhere else" is REALLY fuct up!!
Well... a girl has to make a living! But does she need to profit on the backs of others. BAD OPRAH! BAD LAWYERS!
I have no problem with them using it now or ten years from now. Them claiming ownership of it, rather than a license to use it is wrong. I'd have to ask them permission to use it as my desktop wallpaper if I accepted those terms.
Yeah, not exactly the most exciting of opportunities, the "gimme gimme gimme" attitude has got to stop, seriously, is "taking" my photos from me really necessary?
That's a Really Big Place she's built in California. C'mon, Trey! How do you expect her to decorate the rumpus Room?!
Oprah meet the power of Twitter and social media!!
