Friends still in Chicago frequently don't believe me when I explain how small the actual city of Paris is. This should help, as the Métro, like the CTA, barely leaves city limits.
Also notable is the implicit density of stations. I would guess that there is no place in the city of Paris, proper, where one is more than 500m away from a métro stop. There are giant swaths of Chicago where the nearest el stop is more than 2km away.
